Roma Burge was born in Colac an lived in nearby Carpendeit and Camperdown until married when she moved to Belmont, a suburb of Geelong,in l964. She has had no formal training but has always had a keen interest in art, and once her 5 children got older attended art classes and workshops with the Geelong Art Society, firstly in oil painting and, later, pastels. More recently she has also had an introduction to watercolours and encaustic wax painting. She is a Life Member and served on the committe of the Society for a number of years. She has received numerous prizes for pastels in Geelong and other parts of Victoria and her work is represented in private collections around Australia as well as overseas. Any sparetime is spent at the family holiday home at Peterborough, on Victoria's southwest coast, so her main interest is in seascapes and moods of the sea.
